La Petite Coquette owner and lingerie expert extraordinaire, Rebecca Apsan, was recently featured on The Fashionable Bride, giving advice to dress (and undress) in wedding-night lingerie that works for your body type. Here are a few excerpts from "All Laced Up" (read the full article here):
With all the planning and energy invested in your wedding day, it's easy to forget about your wedding night—and what you'll spend it in. But your late-night ensemble is definitely worth planning for. To help you, we tapped Rebecca Apsan, owner of Manhattan lingerie boutique La Petite Coquette and co-author of The Lingerie Handbook. With her help, you can find a gorgeous look that fits your body type—and style. Here are her fit tips, along with our favorite flattering picks.
Tall or Long-Torsoed Brides: Emulate another long, lean beauty icon in Eres Paris' fine lingerie line, modeled by the always-gorgeous (and epically tall) Lara Stone.
Athletic, Boyish-Figured Brides: "I recommend something to show off their legs and a good bottom—possibly a boyshort," says Apsan. Our pick: Chantelle's iconic Africa fashion line. We adore the demi bra, and the shorty absolutely proves that covering up is sometimes just as sexy as baring all.
Petite or Short-Torsoed Brides: Vertically-challenged brides know lengthening their bodies is a priority, and maintaining a solid line from shoulder to hip is the easiest way to do it. Keep that solid color on the sexy side with Simon Perele's bridal line, complete with corsets, thongs, garter belts, and stockings designed specifically for a woman on her wedding day.
Curvy, Full-Figured Brides: "Many women feel that if they're full-figured, they can't wear a sexy bra," says Apsan. "Not true."
Small-Chested Brides: "Women with small chests are always looking for something that makes them look sexy, but not padded and fake," says Apsan. Enter The Little Bra Company. Determined to give small-chested women the extra oomph they desire without ever looking overdone, the line features tasteful pushups in gorgeous designs.
For Large-Chested Brides: It used to be that the well-endowed women among us were relegated to plain, staid undergarments without so much as a hint of lace. Elle MacPherson has since become the patron saint of busty girls, as her namesake Intimates collection features sexy, feminine lingerie all the way up to a G cup.
Tummy-Conscious or Butt-Conscious Brides: The slightly shy lingerie customer "needs something a little flowy," says Apsan. To slyly conceal trouble spots, a babydoll is just the ticket to provide coverage without sacrificing sex appeal.
