Inspiration: Eloquence & Grace

What inspires you? I'm constantly searching for things to peak my interest. It's funny, I'm actually a little spastic when it comes to my surroundings. Sometimes I think I need horse blinders just to get me through a single task. It's a gift and a curse, I just can't help but feel inspired by the world around me (corny yes, but true!).

In the creative world, artists, designers, musicians, etc. are constantly seeking inspiration for their work from other creatives that preceded them. In my last post, I recommended some art shows to attend this weekend so I thought it appropriate to offer some artful inspiration. 

Unless you've been living under a rock, I'm sure you've noticed the recent obsession with ballerinas. From Kanye West's Runaway video to Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan." What is it about these delicate creatures that sparked this fascination? 

If Edgar Degas was alive we could ask him. I'd like to count him as the first (known) artist to covet the prima ballerina.

Art historians consider Mademoiselle Fiocre in the ballet "La Source" as the French impressionist first major piece to incorporate his enchantment with dancers.

While the Fiocre is magnificent, I much prefer what followed. Degas' delicate brush strokes and romantic color palette are the perfect pairing for a rainy sunday afternoon like today. Enjoy!

I could go on forever posting his masterpieces but then you'd never get anything done today! As I look at these beautiful things ironically I see nothing short of the lingerie we carry in our beautiful boutique. Airy, delicate and as feminine as feminine gets. I have sufficiently proven my point, inspiration is everywhere!
